100% Combed Cotton
At PETAL HOME we use only 100% combed cotton because combing creates a smoother yarn as the fibers are more aligned. On the other hand carding creates a fuzzier yarn as fibers are not aligned.
Combing is an expensive process as the waste involved is higher when compared with carding. Combed cotton produces extremely soft and supple fabric whereas carding leads to a coarser and weaker fabric.
Single vs. Double Pick Sheets
Single Pick
PETAL HOME supplies Single Pick sheets. They are the soft, smooth, and comfortable choice you and your guests require. Single Pick is a weaving process that alternates one warp end (single pick) passing successively over and under one weft pick, alternating each row, 1 x 1. This results in a tighter weave , softer touch and long-lasting sheets.
Double Pick
The Double Pick Sheet is rough and harsh, not a feeling one would like to experience. This is a plain weave that alternates one warp (lengthwise) end passing successively over and under two weft (cross) picks, alternating each row, 1 x 2. This results in a coarser and weaker fabric.
Thread Count
Thread count is the number of threads woven together in a square inch of fabric. As the thread count rises, the fabric becomes softer, denser and warmer.
A higher thread count does not necessarily mean a higher quality sheet.
Thread counts advertised in excess of 500 are often misrepresented by manufacturers in order to trick customers. They count not just each thread, but each ply spun together within each thread. As multi-ply construction is often used to strengthen lower-grade cotton, a super high thread count can actually indicate the presence of a lower-quality sheet.
Sateen Weave
Weaves
The weave of a fabric ultimately affects how it looks and feels. We use 100% cotton sateen weaves for our sheets.
Sateen
Sateen is a one-yarn-under and three-yarn-over weave. More thread surface exposed by the three-over, one-under weave is what gives sateen its signature silky-soft feel and luminous sheen. Sateen is more tightly woven and heavier in weight making it warmer and buttery soft, ideal for year-round comfort.
